Był synem księcia Rostislava z Macsó i jego żony Anny, córki króla Węgla Béli IV [1]. Kiedy książę Rostisław zmarł w 1262 roku, jego ziemie zostały podzielone między jego synów: Michael odziedziczył część ojca Bośni, a Béla odziedziczyła Banate of Macs [3].
