The A8 motorway (), also known as The Union Motorway ([1]) or the East-West Motorway ([2]) is a planned motorway in Romania, that will cross the Eastern Carpathians to connect the historical regions of Moldavia and Transylvania.

With a total length of around Szablon:Convert,[3] and an estimated cost of 4.07 billion €, A8 will have the following route (from east to west): Ungheni - border with Moldova, Iași, Târgu Frumos, Pașcani, Târgu Neamț, Poiana Largului, Tulgheș, Ditrău, Sovata, Târgu Mureș - junction with A3 motorway.[4]

The A8 motorway is divided into five segments: Târgu Mureș – Ditrău segment of Szablon:Convert, Ditrău – junction with DN2 (Pașcani area) segment of Szablon:Convert, DN2 – Iași segment of Szablon:Convert, Iași Nord bypass segment of Szablon:Convert, and Iași – Ungheni border segment (TBD).[5][6]

Pre-feasibility studies performed in 2007 were followed by feasibility studies in 2009–2011. As of February 2015, the feasibility study revision and update is being conducted by private contractors.[2] The auction for the execution of the Targu Mures - Targu Neamt segment is expected to be launched in January 2021.[7]
